Before December 7th, 1941 the United States claimed to stay out of the war because they didn't want to get involved. On December 7th, the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii at 7:55 am. The next day the United States entered the war and claimed that day to be "A day that will live in infamy." Since the Japanese had surprise attacked the United States they decided to create the bombs "Little Boy" and "Fat Man." Also, since the United States didn't want to get involved in the war in the first place, the bombs were also used to attempt to end the war, that it did in 1945.
