Just before the war people were afraid that Hitler would create an atomic bomb. Albert Einstein not to long after, had written to President Franklin Roosevelt and was explaining how purified uranium 235 could create a powerful atomic bomb. Einstein was the first to come with the idea of actually have the U.S. create the atomic bomb. They then started what was known as "The Manhattan Project" where they would attempt to develop the bomb and test it and its powerful blast. Many scientists including Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Harold Urey worked alongside President Roosevelt to help make the Manhattan Project a success.
Testing The Bomb
Roosevelt and the scientists had tested the bomb in the deserts located in northern New Mexico. They had dropped the bomb code named Trinity on July 16th, 1945. The success of Trinity led to the creation of two more bombs "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" that were used in World War 2 for one purpose, Japan. (Find Out More By Clicking Either One Of The Buttons)
Why Was It An Important Turning Point In History?
The development and use of the atomic bomb in Japan lead to major amount of deaths, injuries, long-term effects, short-term effects, environmental problems, and created a site in Hiroshima displaying the horror of the atomic bomb. The development and use also ushered in the Atomic & Nuclear Ages which became a long term effect .
